Ridgewaye Colts 1 Sedlescombe Rangers 9
Another good win, once again with 10 men against their eleven. Unfortunately Andrew was missing due to a stomach bug but Kieran had re-signed for the team and slotted into a strong back four with Greg, Jordan & Jamal, playing as if he had never been away.
Only our second 11 a side game and our first for sometime, and the early performance seem to reflect this. Instead of playing our normal fast, passing game we tried to run with the ball through a congested middle of the field, often losing it before we could play Charlie or Charles in and, ignoring Lewis who took up some great wide positions on the right and Josh & Jamal in space on the left. Despite this we fought for everything and some excellent finishing from Charlie saw us take a 3-0 lead before a lack of concentration left our defence exposed and Ridgewaye broke away to score with a good finish, giving Ben no chance.
In the second half we improved on our passing and this brought us further goals from Charlie, two well taken goals from Charles and goals from Josh & Akira. The defence of Kieran, Greg, Jordan & Jamal were far too strong for Ridgewaye and restricted them to very few chances that Ben dealt with easily. The midfield of Akira, Josh & Lewis were into their stride in the second half, full of running and tackling strongly, up front Charlie & Charles gave their defence no time to settle creating many half chances. In the later stages Ben had to come off with a back injury and Jordan dropped into goal but even this didn’t put us off our game and down to 9 men we still scored two of our goals. Ben came back onto the field for the final 4 or 5 minutes and after more good play from our midfield was unlucky not to score with a great overhead kick.
A performance that showed how strong we are, how we can adapt our play and how we do not let anything put us off our game.
Man of the match was Charlie, not because he scored 5 goals but especially for his first half display when he repeatedly turned their defence and took his chances at a time when we were not giving him a particularly good service.
