Coach for Chelsea Football Club (FITC)
It was purely by sheer fate that I joined the club, my 5 year old son Freddie had been kicking a ball around since he could walk and was desperate to join a local football club.
I asked around and found that there was a club called ‘Sedlescombe Rangers F C‘. However, at that particular time they didn’t have anyone to train or coach the under 6s. I suggested to the club that I may be able to help out.
I commenced coaching in 2003 with a group of children mainly from Sedlescombe with a few from the surrounding villages.
This is now my 5th season training and managing my original U6’s who are now my U10’s and I’m pleased to say that all of the children have been totally committed and are still part of the squad.
Many new children have joined and have become part of the U10’s and we now run two squads the Blues and the Whites which for a small village is fantastic.
Without the help of Richard Poole there would not be a Sedlescombe White team.
Under 7’s now under 8s
It was again the absence of a under 7’s manager that lead me onto coaching this group of children. My younger son D’Arcy also wanted to join a club.
I now train approximately 24 children in this age group.
There are many different characters from confident to shy, lively or quiet but they all have a willingness to learn.
My Achievements
To ensure that I could give the children the best of my knowledge I decided to take my Coaching Qualifications:
I am now a qualified FA Level 1 and Level 2 coach. and I want to continue to learn and hope to further my coaching by study for Level 3.
I also coach for Chelsea FC Youth(Football in the Community)
The Children
U10’s
The Sedlescombe Rangers Blue U10s squad consists of 10 players. All of these players except 4 have been playing together since they were 5 and 6 years old. All of them have improved from being individual children learning the game to form a very strong and talented team.
They currently play in the mini minor league and are doing extremely well.
The Sedlescombe Rangers Whites U10s squad consist of 12 players. This team is relatively new and has some very talented players who are again showing positive signs and developing into another strong team. It is their second season in the mini minor league and are settling down well. Richard Pool is there coach and he is doing a great job with the squad.
I have enjoyed every minute managing and training these children, it is such a challenge. The best part for me is to see the children develop, become a team and make new friends.
We train every Saturday, the children love it, and the parents are very supportive.
Our strengths as a club are endless, more so now that we have been awarded the FA Football Standard Charter.
The club as been running for twenty five years now. It was our 25th anniversary last year, and we are so proud of that.
